Monica Smith’s practice focuses on civil litigation. Before joining the firm, Monica clerked for the Honorable Claude M. Hilton in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia for three years, where Monica was entrusted with briefing the judge on complex cases, drafting orders and opinions, and assisting with courtroom procedures.
Prior to her clerkship, Monica served as associate counsel at the Republican National Committee, where Monica played a key role in litigation strategy and collaborated with outside counsel on high-profile matters. Monica’s legal expertise is further demonstrated by her internships with United States District Judges Karen Gren Scholer and Alan Albright, where Monica contributed to significant federal cases.
Monica earned her Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law, graduating with top honors, including the High A award in Contracts II for the highest grade in class, and recognition from the Baylor Barrister Society for excellence in moot court. Monica also volunteered for the school’s pro bono veteran’s clinic. Monica holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from The University of Texas at Austin, where Monica was a Bill Archer Fellow and interned in the D.C. office of Senator John Cornyn while maintaining a full course load.
