Joshua Fiveson is an appellate partner whose practice focuses on distilling complex legal issues into clear, controlling arguments. He draws on experience at the highest levels of government—as an advocate, advisor, and adjudicator—to manage high-stakes litigation strategy.

Joshua possesses a broad range of courtroom experience. As an assistant solicitor general, he represented Texas in appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of Texas as well as in consequential trials. Moreover, during his time as senior appellate counsel for the Navy and Marine Corps, Joshua represented the United States in complex criminal appeals and served as embedded appellate counsel on high-visibility prosecutions across the globe.

Joshua’s advisory experience also informs his practice. In 2024, he was appointed Chief of the Texas Attorney General’s Opinion Committee and oversaw the issuance of roughly fifty opinions—advising senior legislative, executive, and local officials on legal issues of first impression. Additionally, Joshua spent years as a judicial law clerk: for Chief Justice Hecht at the Supreme Court of Texas, Chief Judge Ohlson at the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and Judge Willett at the Fifth Circuit.

Joshua’s practical insight is likewise shaped by his time as an administrative law judge. With jurisdiction over more than sixty agencies, he managed a statewide docket and presided over hundreds of contested cases at the State Office of Administrative Hearings. That experience strengthened his command of administrative law, sharpened his ability to protect the record, and deepened his understanding of how complex problems can be reduced to judgments that endure.
